Physical Description: Athletic. Innumerable scars from combat and training. After receiving substantial plasma burns to the right side of his face during an accident in Engineering, Dalziel underwent extensive facial reconstruction, dermal regeneration and artificial skin grafts. Also his critically damaged right eye was replaced with an optical implant. Dalziel then undertook rehabilitation to help him use his 'new eye' effectively.

Bio & History:
Richard Dalziel (pronounced dee-el) was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, the eldest child of Andy and Florie Dalziel. Richard's father was a Starfleet Engineer and in 2348, when he was assigned to the newly commissioned DS8, his family, including the twelve year old went with him. On the station Richard would assist his father with the maintenance tasks he had to perform. Richard showed a natural affinity for Engineering and on his seventeenth birthday he entered Starfleet Basic Training.

In 2372 while Richard was serving on the U.S.S. Hussar, they came under attack by unknown forces. He was a member of a damage control team sent to secure a bulkhead. When the officer in charge was injured in an explosion, Richard took command of the team, they finished the job and were able to aid a repair team in their repair of a phaser bank, that allowed the Hussar to fight off her attackers.

For his quick action and exceptional work, he was awarded a commendation and his leadership skills are noted.

Richard's father was an old fashioned man with a Protestant work ethic. He was a Starfleet NCO Engineer who had strong opinions about class, one of these beliefs was that enlisted personnel shouldn't fraternize with officers.
Even though Richard didn't share his father's extreme belief, he still felt more at home around enlisted personnel.

When a plasma conduit ruptured in Engineering, Dalziel received plasma burns to his face after pushing a junior engineer out of danger.
The loss of his eye in the line of duty has become a blessing, in that his optical implant allows him to see the world in a way few others can. It is also an advantage in his hobby of starship design.

While he was recovering he met a medical officer named Emily Marlowe. They met one night in the commissary, they became good friends and this friendship later blossomed into love.

Richard had discussed with Emily his intention to transfer to command track and it was Emily's father, Captain Christopher Marlowe that supported Richard's application for Enlisted Command School. A favour he was glad to do for his future son-in-law.

Once Richard completed Command School, he and Emily were married.
In 2391 they were both assigned to the U.S.S. Deimos, him as Chief of Boat and her as a staff physician
