Anahera Chernova's personality is characterised by feelings of guilt and abandonment. Her mother leaving the family, when she was 13 and her father's death from alcohol poisoning 2 years later appear to be the cause of these. She also feels guilt for those she's killed and for surviving when so many have died around her. She feels that she doesn't deserve happiness or love, and uses the fact that her loved ones leave or die violent deaths.
She uses frivolity and alcohol to mask the emptiness and pain, and sex as a substitute for love. She also wants desperately to atone for her crimes.
She is loyal to her friends and selfless, willing to risk her life to protect others.
Although she is a brutally efficient killer, she shows no psychopathic tendencies.

Born in the early years of the Federation, Anahera enjoyed a good life in a loving family, until her mother left without a word, shortly before her thirteenth birthday. Heartbroken, her father preceded to drink himself to death, succeeding 2 years later.
Alone, Anahera took a job as a junior crewmember on a freighter and eventually felt like she'd found a new family, but in her third year aboard, the ship was attacked by pirates, the captain of which claimed her as his woman, but left the others to die in space.
He treated her well and taught her many things and she began to care for him, but once again her life changed for the worse, when he was killed during a raid and Rogan, one of his lieutenants, took over.
Rogan was a cruel man who delighted in torturing and humiliating her. One night when she had taken all she could stand, she plunged his own knife into his chest. Her first kill, but by no means her last.
She then took command of the freighter and attempted to go semi-straight, only for her crew to be arrested and the craft to be impounded at their next port of call.
She would spend the next 20 so years doing odd jobs and seeking out anyone who could teach her how to fight or any form of combat craft, culminating in her enrolling in the Pra thal academy.
She graduated and received a bio-mechanical implant. The next 110 years she spent fighting and making a name for herself in many conflicts against opponents as diverse as Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians and Breen, just to name a few.
Her life changed again when she met a young doctor named Robert Walker. He was handsome, and funny, and she fell for him immediately. He returned her affections and they began dating.
They were soon married and lived happily for over 30 years, giving birth to a son, Constantine and in time a granddaughter, Anzhelina. Their happiness ended when Robert, Constantine and T'Vara, Constantine's wife were killed in a shuttle accident. Devastated, Anahera barely had time to tell her granddaughter what had happened, before government agents arrived at her home on Barisa Prime, arresting her on behalf of Federation Security and placing Azhelina in the care of Family Services.
Anahera assaulted the agents transporting her and fled the planet. Eventually she found herself on Occupied Bajor, where she smuggled in supplies and helped train some of the Resistance. One day she met a young Bajoran school teacher named Jol Tela and her younger sister, Reena. Over the next few months her and Tela became lovers and the mercenary let herself fall in love with her.
But the Fates are not kind and Tela was taken from her, and by the Gods did she make those responsible pay.
While taking Reena to the safety of Federation space, she was arrested by Federation Security again, but this time she went quietly on the proviso that Reena was granted asylum.
She was tried and received a sentence of 30 years. After 20 years she was offered a choice to serve the rest of her sentence in Starfleet. She accepted and since enlisting has served on the U.S.S. Emissary, where she was thrown in the Brig for fighting, the U.S.S. Emissary-A where she fought zombies and the U.S.S. Atlas where a faulty bio-implant took her out during a rescue mission and got lost in an alternate universe.
