Personal History: On Star Date 35800.0 in the year 2358 Carter was born. Carter is the product of parents Michael and Kiera Vaughan, both un-aligned mercenaries, fighting small contractors who work for the Federation on worlds where ecosystems were indangered. Michael and Kiera acted to disrupt seedy operations with weaponry and the use of their mercenary vessel 'the Magellan'. The small retrofitted freighter was nimble and able to store enough supplies for months during mercenary actions between worlds.
Carter lived on board the Magellan as his home months on end as they cruised Sector 21508. Several non Federation contractors were disrupted by Michael and Kiera as the Magellan shut down power and mining operations on worlds of high valued ore and resources. Mining operations degraded natural flora and fauna of the worlds. The Federation chose not to intervene as environmentalists cried foul in the sector, because of the dire need of the ore and other minerals being used during the time which was the initial phase of the Dominion War.
Growing up on the mercenary vessel offered Carter a very limited life of interaction and little to no friends of his age. Becoming immeresed in his parents politics by the age of 11 Carter was able to fix and repair sections of the vessel with his father Michael. The daily repair of mechanical peices onboard allowed Carter to excellerate and help his family in their efforts to bring contracter and mining firms to their knees. Most of the time was spent preparing for disruptions. As a 24th century 'Green Peace' style activists Carters' parents allowed him, in a hippy-style, to be liberal and 'do what ever you wish' attitude.
At the age of 15 Carter began to express more his desire to meet friends his own age, to join a world 'like Earth' and much to his parents horrer to 'join Starfleet' as an Engineer. This was too much for Michael and Kiera to handle.
In 2373 Michael and Kiera had met their match. The mining colony they were disrupting from orbit Nerindra IV was in the process of negotiating with a Klingon operational backer. The Klingon's did not take the surprise lightly, attacking the Magellan. The small sheilds on the vessel were never made to withstand an attack from a cloaked Klingon freighter. Before long the environmental systems failed as Michael, Kiera and Carter was beamed to Nerindra IV. The Klingon's picked up their trail. Forcing both Michael and Kiera down to their knees they were killed execution style in front of Carter. To this day this is something he will not talk about. Carter was left to be found by the Federation.
Volan III became Carter's home after loosing his parents tragically, being scarred in his mind. The colony became a mental refuge for him as he started to relax and open up to people around him. He even started to have a smile on his face once again. In 2376 Carter was accepted to Star Fleet Accademy after completing his Federation entrance exams.
Having excellent grades Carter was still known as a party 'jock type', yet he was more substance beneath if anyone had given the time to get to know him. Carter excelled in both Engineering Spatial Theory, Warp Field Dynamics and Temporal Dynamics all courses he was already well versed from operations with his parents on the Magellan. At Star Fleet Accademy in San Francisco Carter had taken the time to learn about
Earth and even do some research into his long ancestry from Europe and Germany.
At Star Fleet Accademy Carter excelled at sports as he opened up to the friends around him who were already playing. Quickly becoming one of the most valued Federation player on the Freshman Ice Hockey team.
Upon graduation from Star Fleet Accademy in 2382, Carter was assigned as an assistant Engineer on the USS Saratoga. The Saratoga was involved in several skirmishes and was damaged severely. Upon repaires the Saratoga went on to service Federation colonies. Carter was fixed to his new world onboard a Star Ship and constantly being needed to help with repair crews. He quickly learned that life outside of the Federation classrooms was not so cut and dry, that sometimes you needed to think outside the box.
In 2387 Carter began his assignment aboard the USS Melborne. In the Engineering room Carter was given much more freedom in his operations, taking day shifts and night shifts often commanding others because of his leadership skills and his ability to dictate and take control when situations deteriorated quickly. The two short years on the Melborne was spent on patrols and supply missions to the Federation and Romulan Alliance that had been established.
Finally in 2391 Carter was transferred to the USS Draconis. Entering the Engineering of a Galaxy Class Star Ship was an inspiring sight. Carter had never been on board, let alone in charge of the Engineering room of a Galaxy Class vessel. The sounds, the action and the technologies were far more in abundance than the other Star Ships he had served.
