Generalized Biographical Profile
(Compilation based on Earth local government records, psychological evaluation
and personal testimony from primary caregivers, siblings, peers, physicians and
personal counselors.)
Irina was born to a Kriosian mother and a Human father in a warm and nurturing
household with three older brothers. Her upbringing was typical of many Earth born
children, albeit somewhat spoiled and her parents maintaining high expectations for
her.
At the age of four, she began to exhibit atypical behavior in which the emotions
and affect of those around her would greatly influence and imprint upon her. A mild
anger in an individual near Irina would provoke massive tantrums from her. A confident
and pleasant affect would invoke a euphoric response from her. Unknown to anyone
else at the time, Irina inherited a rare trait amongst Kriosians: empathic metamorphism.
Normal Kriosian metamorphs (typically male, and far less common female) exhibit greater
control over this genetic anomaly, but Irina being only half Kriosian, this presented a
previously undocumented case where human genes are interacting with Kriosian genes
resulting in unpredictable behavior ranging from manic, extreme depression or violent
anti-social behavior.
Unfortunately the empathic metamorphism, left completely untreated, became
progressively worst as time went on. Irina's education suffered as did her ability
to maintain long term and meaningful friendships. By junior year of high school she had
dropped out and found herself participating in petty crime and great satisfaction in
confidence art. Starting from small bet gambling at pubs, she would lie and cheat
her marks out of their possessions, culminating into back alley deals in gray and black
market trades.
Civilian authorities took notice of her when she began making deals
with a certain Ferengi specializing in smuggled goods, and managed to cheat him
of well over half his wares. This Ferengi feeling slighted began making attempts at
her life. The authorities intervened and offered Irina psychological treatment instead
of punishment in exchange for her cooperation with a number of illegal operations
she had been involved in.
After admission to psychological evaluation, she was formally diagnosed and treated
for empathic metamorphism. The sudden revelation and stabilization of her behavior
essentially sterilized her sense of self. Irina was unsure of what traits were her own,
and which had been imprinted as a result of her interactions. This both dumbfounded
and confused her. On top of this, a great sense of guilt overwhelmed her, knowing she
had disappointed and brought shame upon her family with her behavior. Knowing she had
to repeat two years of secondary education, she felt she needed to make things right
for herself.
While Irina graduated two years later than her peers, she would have earned near perfect
marks were it not for her delinquency. Her entire ordeal left a void in her heart that seemed
to only be fulfilled whenever she "studied" other people. Not wanting to disappoint her family
again, she set her sights high and rigorously studied for entrance into Starfleet Medical
Academy, a feat she only managed to achieve by the skin of her teeth.
Irina majored in Psychology and wrote two published papers (One on therapeutic counseling
on long term cohabitation; the other on herbal psychometrics) based on her internships at several
trade stations and taking additional years off on several planets at the edge of Federation space.
Personality as Evaluated by Personal Counselor:
Irina is quite affable, quick to establish trust and naturally cordial. She has a knack for predicting
short term trends in individual behavior. She seeks enjoyment and pleasure speaking with others;
but at times she can be brash. If left unchecked, she often disregards the comfort of the person
she speaks to. While these may be good qualities to have in an effective counselor, they are not
always the qualities one seeks in a friend. There a limited studies of Kriosian Empathic Metamorphism,
and keeping this in mind, Irina appears to avoid long term relationships in fear of permanent imprints
of undesirable personality traits.
Primary Care Physician Additional Notes:
In addition to meditative techniques, Irina is prescribed Psilosynine Inhibitors taken every
12 hours administered by hypospray to aid in suppressing her empathic metamorphism. Without them,
she has limited control over her empathic abilities, and over time this may impact her performance and behavior.
Service Record
2391 - U.S.S. Deimos, Counselor.
